South Carolina Boat Tax

New Boat-Friendly Bill Moves Forward

On June 16, 2010, the South Carolina Legislature overrode the Governor's veto of S.409 putting South Carolina on track to becoming tax-friendly state for boating.

S.405 is a bill that clarifies the tax situs law for boats and also added a provision that allows boats owned by LLCs to qualify for the lower tax rates. The South Carolina Marine Association (SCMA) is preparing for the next legislative session to bring SC taxes for boats more in line with neighboring states.

Status and details of S.405: South Carolina's Watercraft Property Tax Bill is available for review online.
